Miles Austin

Patient Speaker

Miles Austin brings the lived experience perspective to the Round Table. He has experienced recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax since the age of 18, with more than a dozen episodes before undergoing pleurectomy surgery on both lungs, one procedure delivered through the NHS and one privately.

His experience provides a rare comparison of care pathways, clinical communication and recovery across systems. He has also lived with long term neuropathic pain following surgery. Miles offers insight into what respiratory care feels like from the patient side, including uncertainty, continuity of care and the long term impact of treatment decisions.
