Yawoa Mawuli Foli Awli is a senior NHS nurse leader with over 14 years’ specialist experience in respiratory care across both acute and community settings. Her clinical background spans asthma, COPD and long term oxygen therapy, alongside complex case management for patients with multiple long term conditions. She currently holds the role of Lead Respiratory Nurse at University Hospital Lewisham. Prior to this, she completed a year as a Hospital Admission Avoidance Senior Discharge Matron at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she led rapid response, virtual ward and community interface pathways. In that role, she focused on reducing avoidable admissions, improving patient flow and ensuring safe, timely discharge for patients with complex respiratory and long term conditions.
Yawoa has significant experience working across urgent care, integrated care and community services, building collaboration between hospital teams, primary care and community providers. Her work centres on designing services that are clinically robust, operationally realistic and genuinely person centred. She understands the pressures facing frontline teams and is focused on solutions that improve outcomes without adding unnecessary complexity.
Her leadership style is grounded in equity, workforce development and practical transformation. She is particularly committed to addressing variation in care and ensuring that patients with respiratory disease receive consistent, high quality support regardless of where they enter the system.
